PPG Polifarb Cieszyn SA - is the new name of the leading Polish producer of industrial coatings.

Known by the name of Cieszyńska Fabryka Farb i Lakierów the company was established in 1945 in Cieszyn. In 1962 construction of a new site in Marklowice started, 5 km from the town centre of Cieszyn, from where the factory was moved in 1968. In August 1990 the company was transformed into the State Treasury Company, known as Polifarb Cieszyn S.A., and three years later, in May 1993, shares of the company were sold in public offer and listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

In 1997 Polifarb Cieszyn S.A. and Polifarb Wrocław S.A., former competitors and the two largest paint producers in Poland, merged to create a new company, Polifarb Cieszyn - Wrocław S.A.

In order to use optimally the potential of both sites the specialisation process was implemented: the Wrocław site was ultimately going to produce decorative coatings, while the Cieszyn site, highly experienced in production of industrial coating, took over this part of the business.

In February 1999 Polifarb Cieszyn - Wrocław S.A. was taken over by Kalon BV, and then became a member of the international group, SigmaKalon one of the largest paint producers worldwide, with 10 thousand employees in 40 countries. As a result of further specialization, in 2005 the Cieszyn site become the head office of the Business Unit Industrial Coatings, and the Wrocław site was incorporated in the structures of the Business Unit Deco International.

As a natural consequence, the company Polifarb Cieszyn-Wrocław S.A. was divided into two separate legal entities:
SigmaKalon Cieszyn S.A. i SigmaKalon Deco Polska Sp. z o.o., which took place on December 1, 2006.

Jan. 2, 2008 - PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) announced the acquisition of SigmaKalon Group, a worldwide coatings producer based in Uithoorn, Netherlands, from global private investment firm Bain Capital.

Pittsburgh-based PPG is a global supplier of paints, coatings, chemicals, optical products, specialty materials, glass and fiber glass. The company employs more than 34,000 people and has 125 manufacturing facilities and equity affiliates in more than 25 countries. PPG shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: PPG).
